Participate in National Breast Cancer Awareness Month

The primary objective of the National Breast Cancer Awareness Month (NBCAM) program is to educate women about breast cancer by emphasizing the importance of early detection through screening mammography.

  • NBCAM is observed each October.
  • NBCAM's message is communicated through nationwide educational campaigns directed to women of all ages and ethnicities.
  • A key element of the NBCAM program is the Promotion Guide. This is a "how-to" kit for communities and worksites to develop their own breast cancer awareness programs. Click here to download the Promotion Guide.
  • NBCAM is made possible by an educational grant from the AstraZeneca Health Care Foundation.

Don't miss your mammogram this year

The American Cancer Society recommends that women have mammograms once a year beginning at age 40. After age 40, women should continue having yearly mammograms as long as they are in good health.

National Mammography Day

The third Friday in October is National Mammography Day. On this day, participating radiologists and/or radiology facilities provide discounted or even free mammogram screenings. Several national organizations will have a list of the facilities that participate in National Mammography Day. To find a place near you, call:
